Bookmarking service for IP TV
I have great respect for TV. It is a source of entertainment as well as education. But I have not had much time for it lately. I would rather be out and about. However I do miss it. One thing that could attract me back to the television is some sort of a bookmarking service for the TV content, something like a Digg or del.icio.us for the TV content.
I watch TV on an average for about 20 minutes a day. Out of those 20 minutes, I spend about 15 just reading the program synopsis of various listed items. There is no service out there that tells me what ordinary people like me think about Soap X, or News Bulletin on Channel Y, or Documentary Z etc.
Obvioulsy it is difficult to have something like that with legacy TV services because you do not have an easy connection from EPG back into the Web. With IP TV however, the user can go straight to the bookmarking website and see how many 'diggs' a certain item has received. You could see what your friends have been watching and 'digging'. There could be one-off diggs and there could be diggs on an ongoing basis for a certain soap like serial. You would obviously want to work with guys like Espial and Microsoft who would provide you an icon on their EPG interface.
Business wise, it would help tremendously if you are able to partner with some of the EPG vendors. However, obviously, it is not absolutely necessary in the beginning. I don't have a Digg icon on my desktop. I type their url to visit them. It would not be too far fetched to think that we will someday have a bookmarking aggregator like addthis.com who will aggregate lots of bookmarking services for IP TV. And we will have that 'Bookmark' icon on the EPG.
